Seeing Spiritual Fruit Amid Tense Cameroon Presidential Election

Hope in the Midst of Turmoil: Sharing the Gospel Across Cameroon

As tension and uncertainty rise across Cameroon, the country waits anxiously for the results of a contentious presidential election. Amid political unrest, food insecurity, and the growing influence of extremist groups, many Cameroonians are struggling to find stability and hope.

Yet even in the midst of turmoil, God is at work.

Since 2023, The Tide® ministry has continued to broadcast the true message of the Gospel in local languages across Cameroon, breaking through the barriers of religious persecution and cultural traditions. These programs offer hope to those seeking spiritual truth in some of the hardest-to-reach places, especially where Christians face bitter persecution.

Reaching the Unreachable

In the northern regions of Cameroon, the presence of militants has disrupted church activities and made it difficult to safely share the message of the Bible. Many believers risk their lives just to gather for worship. But through radio broadcasts in the local languages, the Gospel continues to reach hearts and homes that might otherwise never hear the Good News of Jesus.

These broadcasts serve as an oasis of hope in a nation facing overwhelming challenges:

  • Food insecurity has reached alarming levels. In 2025, more than 3.3 million people are expected to need humanitarian assistance.

  • Poverty continues to deepen, with over 23% of Cameroonians living below the international poverty line of just $2.15 a day, with this number projected to climb to 25% by 2026.

  • Climate disasters such as the devastating 2024 floods in the Far North that destroyed over 85,000 hectares of farmland, worsening food shortages, and driving more families into despair.

As the 92-year-old president Paul Biya (who has been in power for nearly 44 years) seeks reelection, many Cameroonians are weary and uncertain about the future. But through it all, The Tide ministry continues to shine the light of Christ.

Faith That Overcomes

Despite the difficulties, our dedicated ‘boots on the ground’ team in Cameroon continues to make a powerful spiritual impact across the country:

  • In the South Region, our pastors are faithfully broadcasting through three partner radio stations and organizing door-to-door evangelism, helping people find hope in Christ.

  • In the North, ministry continues through three radio partners (ESPOIR, GRAINE DE VIE, and GROUPE SALAMAN) even amid threats from extremist groups.

  • In the West, pastors are broadcasting live in local languages, boldly proclaiming the Gospel in areas deeply rooted in idol worship. Many are turning to Christ, and new prayer cells are forming to disciple these believers.

A Testimony of Transformation

One listener from Badjoun Town shared this powerful story of redemption:

“I had for a long time lived in the shadow of my sins, blinded by pride and making destructive choices. Every day was a battle, and I didn’t know where to take refuge. One day, by listening to your radio broadcasts in the local language, something in me changed. Every word resonated in my heart, and I felt the call to repentance. I found myself kneeling down, wallowing in my sorrows, and seeking repentance. I began listening to the teachings frequently, but the healing didn’t come as I expected; hence, I was overwhelmed with sorrow. Today, to the glory of God, I am set free from my past mistakes. Thanks to the production team for the light they bring to our lives every week. You give me hope and direction.”

This is why we continue.

For many in Cameroon, especially those who have no access to a Bible, these broadcasts may be their only opportunity to hear about Christ’s love. Even when everything around them feels uncertain, believers can hold fast to the promises of God, knowing that He has a plan and a purpose for their lives.

In the face of fear, faith endures. In the midst of darkness, His light still shines.
