Hope in the Storm

November 3, 2025

As Cameroon reels from the aftermath of a contentious presidential election, the streets echo with unrest, uncertainty, and cries for justice. But amid the chaos, our ‘boots on the ground’ continue to rise above the turmoil bringing a voice of peace, truth, and hope; providing a beacon of light in one of Africa’s most politically and spiritually turbulent regions.

A Nation in Crisis
Cameroon’s Constitutional Council recently declared 92-year-old incumbent Paul Biya the winner of the October 12th presidential election, extending his 43-year rule. The announcement sparked widespread protests, with opposition parties alleging fraud and irregularities. Demonstrations erupted across cities like Yaoundé, Garoua, and Douala, where clashes with security forces and acts of arson have deepened the country’s political divide.

Beyond the political strife, the people face staggering challenges. From extremist violence in the north, to youth unemployment, a failing infrastructure, and an alarming food insecurity, affecting over 3.3 million people. With nearly a quarter of the population living below the poverty line, hope can feel like a distant dream.

Broadcasting the Gospel in the Midst of Turmoil
That’s where we step in. Since 2023, The Tide has been broadcasting the Gospel in local languages, reaching even the most remote villages. These radio programs offer more than spiritual teaching. They provide comfort, courage, and community to believers navigating persecution, poverty, and political instability.

In several regions, especially the West and Northwest, believers live among deep-rooted traditions of idol worship and occult practices, making practicing the Christian faith a courageous stand. Despite these hardships, however, the light of the Gospel continues to shine through Christian radio broadcasts and local ministry efforts.

Beyond the Airwaves: Meeting Physical Needs
In partnership with the Cameroon Center for Evangelism and Hope (CFEH), we have launched community development projects that meet urgent physical needs.

  • Drilling wells in remote communities where clean water is scarce
  • Building shelters for church gatherings and discipleship
  • Providing motorcycles to ministry workers who travel tirelessly to disciple new believers

These efforts are transforming lives, not just spiritually, but practically. They’re creating safe spaces for worship, enabling mobility for outreach, and restoring dignity to communities long neglected.

Hope That Endures

Even as roads are blocked and riots disrupt daily life, our broadcasts continue to reach hearts. In regions where extremists hinder church activity, the radio becomes an important tool. It’s a place where the Word of God is heard, believed, and shared.

We are engaged, expanding, and bringing hope. People are listening, and lives are being changed. In a nation gripped by unrest, our hope is to share HOPE through the Gospel message and clean water, showing believers that the light of Christ still shines, even in the darkest hour.
