If you stroll through a mall in Bangkok, chances are you will find many people on their cell phones, scrolling through Facebook or chatting on Line. Of course, this phenomenon is not restricted to Thailand, but the country has one of the highest social media penetration rates in the world, with over 90% of its people active on Facebook, Line, TikTok, YouTube, and other platforms. Usage rates are somewhat lower in less urban areas like the Isaan region where The Tide is active, but are high nonetheless.
The Tide recently brought on a part-time staff in Thailand to manage social media accounts, develop video content, and increase our frequency of posts. She sends a 7-10 minute daily devotional, “Walking with God” at 7am via the social media app Line. She also attended a one-day training led by a Christian media group and has been making 5-7 new posts per week on TikTok and Facebook. The number of followers on TikTok increased from 1000 to 1230 during her first month of managing the account.
Radio remains the bread and butter of the team, with four radio stations broadcasting the Life’s Answers and Joy at Work programs. Believers and seekers alike continue to use our Envoy audio players. When Don and Becky visited Khum Lek village in March they met a gentleman who loved listening to Life’s Answers so much that his audio player had stopped working. Life’s Answers proclaims the Good News with local (Isaan) music, Bible storytelling, and testimonies of believers. Another man nearby saw Don and several others wearing Life’s Answers t-shirts and remarked, “Life’s Answers program? I listen to that all the time.” He listens to the program every evening at 6pm and said that lots of other people listen to it too.
We are grateful that the Gospel is going forth in different channels, reaching people young and old in different walks of life in Thailand. Please continue to remember Thailand in your prayers.
