Unfinished Business

Today is the day. It’s the Tide Ministry’s 80th anniversary celebration dinner. The staff and our partners have been preparing for months. We have been praying and preparing as much as we can. The Tide office staff, Board of Directors, volunteers, partners, and businesses who have helped with this have worked hard. Very hard. We don’t say this to garner congratulations or sympathy. It’s just a fact.
One might think everything is done, that every i has been dotted and every t crossed, and that no detail has been missed. Certainly, we had enough time and manpower to perfect our plan for the evening.

We say this to point out that it is not finished and it’s not perfect. We have missed typos despite several proofreaders. We fell behind on parts of the program when time should have been on our side. We added details at the last moment.

Don’t get us wrong. We are happy with what we have put together. We are also realists and recognize that we made a mistake by thinking we could make everything perfect.

Our evening, planned to give glory to God, express gratitude to supporters, and look to the future, reminds us of our great need for God. Try as we might, we cannot achieve perfection.  While we look back at 80 years of Gospel ministry, we also look back 2000 years. This is why we celebrate, why you support, and why The Tide ministry exists. Perfection does exist. But it is in God, not us.

God completed His plan with divine perfection. And in His final breath before succumbing to death on the cross, Jesus declared, “It is finished”. The sacrifice of one for the salvation of all who would believe (Romans 1:16) No fault, no flaw, no criticism can be found in God’s perfect plan of salvation. He substituted the holy for the unholy, the righteous for the unrighteous, the sinless for the sinner (1 Peter 3:18)

Whether or not you can join us tonight, we are grateful for your support. You have changed lives. You have been the hands that have provided food, skills training, and hygienic water. You have been the heart that has comforted those who suffer. You have been the feet that have spread the Good News, telling many millions of people about the hope we have in Jesus, a hope that does not disappoint.

As we pass this milestone, our commitment to heart language broadcasts to those with limited access to the Gospel is stronger than ever. We continue to use existing and emerging technologies to reach as many people as possible, disciple new believers, equip pastors, and plant churches. Through practical ministry projects, we will show the love of Jesus.  We are able to do this because of your support.

As you look back on 80 years of The Tide ministry, we hope you also look ahead with a vision for reaching more countries and regions, proclaiming Christ in more languages, and strengthening our partners as well as this ministry. And we ask that you give a gift of support to The Tide Forward vision.
