Do you remember Choose Your Own Adventure books?
For those unfamiliar, it is a series of books that puts the reader in charge of the story. At the end of certain pages, the reader chooses what happens next by going to a page that corresponds to what they want to happen. For example, in the story, the reader and his group might face the dilemma of who will lead an expedition. If the reader wants “the bodybuilder” to take over, they turn to page 48. To let “the scientist” take over, they turn to page 61. Thus, the story is determined by the choices the reader makes.
While we cannot always choose the events and paths life presents us with, we can choose our own adventure by deciding which way to turn and, more importantly, to whom we will turn.
Think about this scenario and choose your own adventure.
“Recent attacks linked to ISIS-affiliated militants in Northern Mozambique took the lives of nine people. The attacks also destroyed over 160 homes and burned down multiple churches. The attacks were targeted acts of religious destruction against people who chose Jesus and worshipped Him.”
What will you choose?
To let rage take over: Turn to unrighteous anger.
Pray that God sends them into eternal punishment and that they never meet Jesus this side of eternity. Ephesians 4:26
To let complacency take over: Turn to resignation.
Give up because the problem is too far away and too big for you to do anything about. 2 Thessalonians 3:13
To let bitterness take over: Turn to complaint and criticism.
Blame the government, or anyone else, for not doing more about it. Point to failures among the Church and Christians throughout history. Hebrews 12:15
To let hope take over: Turn to God.
Pray for God to show His greatness despite tragedy, His love despite hatred, and His power through changed lives. Romans 5:1-5
The Tide ministry chose hope. We will do so every time.
When we choose hope, we acknowledge God’s power, and we unlock doors to other choices. We choose to remain committed to broadcasting the Word of God in the language people can understand, the heart language they were born to speak. We choose to stand alongside local pastors and strengthen the faith of those who suffer for following Jesus. We choose to empower local leaders through innovative broadcast programs that equip them with essential Bible training. In doing so, we are helping them overcome the challenges they face, whether it is a horrendous attack, economic uncertainty, or limited access to educational resources. Since 2020, we have chosen to share hope through the “Words of God” program in Chichewa, a language widely spoken across Mozambique.
We are grateful for our supporters. You have empowered us to make the choices we have made for almost 80 years. We want you to know that your choices make a difference to millions of people around the world. The testimonies of what God has done in the lives of those who benefited from your support are powerful. You can read them in our weekly e-news, quarterly newsletters, and our prayer guides. Your heart will be touched to see that when you chose to allow God to work through you, you made it possible for others to choose Jesus.
Here is another scenario and an opportunity for you to choose your adventure.
“God has moved in your heart to take action today to extend hope around the world.”
