Television Programming in India

June 3, 2025

As the world’s most populous nation, India’s demographic statistics are staggering. Its most widespread language, Hindi, has over half a billion native speakers. Even India’s minority languages boast more native speakers than the populations of most countries in the world.

The Tide’s ministry partner, Good News Hour (Child Evangelization Fellowship), produces television programming in two of India’s minority languages, Marathi (spoken in the state of Maharashtra) and Telugu (spoken in the states of Telegana and Andhra Pradesh). With more than 80 million native speakers, these languages are more widely spoken as a first language than French, German, Korean, or Persian!

Around 30 staff members diligently work to produce seasons of 20-episode television programs aimed at sharing God’s love with children and families. Upcoming episodes will focus on lessons about Hearing from God, Jesus the One Way to Salvation, and a Life Turned Around. After production, this content is integrated into Sunday School lessons, used as tools for Vacation Bible School and other outreach initiatives, children’s camps, and community events. There is also a large and growing initiative to distribute video content on YouTube and other social media platforms.

GNH is pleased to report significant growth and overwhelmingly positive feedback for its Marathi-language programming, which now reaches over 5,000 children. The Telugu-language programming now reaches more than 15,000 children every week. Our partner reports:

We are humbled to see how God is expanding this mission, using it as a powerful tool to reach children and share the Gospel message with them. The program’s impact on children’s lives is nothing short of remarkable, and they are experiencing spiritual growth, faith development, and a deeper understanding of God’s love for them.

What a great reminder and encouragement that despite tightening religious regulations, increased persecution, wars and rumors of wars, and tensions in disputed Kashmir region, God is on the move in India!
