Sew Many Possibilities

Take a moment to daydream. Think about the impact doubling or tripling your income would have. What would it mean for you and your family? For most of us, if this dream became reality, it would mean greater financial stability, less worry, and more choices in providing for our families.

In two villages in India where your support empowers The Tide ministry and its partners, there is now the potential for this dream to become a life-changing reality. This is through skills training and certification for an initial group of about 20 young ladies who come from our partner-run hostels that provide housing for students. Some come from Christian households, others do not. All need practical skills to achieve financial health.

This past week, Good News Hour inaugurated two tailoring (sewing) training centers. The centers offer high school and college-age girls the opportunity to learn an in-demand skill, earn a certificate, and gain the means to provide much-needed income for themselves and their families.

When we think about the kind of earthly ministry Jesus had, we cannot miss that He loved and cared for the whole person. He fed. He healed. He soothed. He saved. Taking care of physical needs is simply another expression of His love. The training centers provide you and us with opportunities to imitate Jesus’ love in both practical and spiritual ways.

Students who complete the course are awarded a certificate and a sewing machine of their own. These will empower them to either do piecework from home or open their own shop. In the village areas the training centers serve, that means going from ₹0-₹1,500 a month to ₹4,000-₹8,000 a month (roughly $0- $15 a month to $40-$80).

When people come to faith in Jesus and develop marketable skills, they can enjoy riches in Christ and a moderate income. Their lives will be changed now and for eternity, thanks to your support.

As you look through the pictures, we hope you will take a moment to pray for India and the training centers. Pray that the training centers will be shining lights in the community. Ask God to provide all of the supplies that each student needs. Most of all, pray that the training centers are used to draw many students to a heart-transforming relationship with Jesus.

As God puts it on your heart to get involved in this particular project, we would like to offer a couple of ways to do so.

Give a financial gift of any amount. The monthly cost to run a training center is about $100. This includes the classroom space, honorarium for instructors, and operating costs. Approximately $100 can also provide a graduate with a sewing machine and the supplies needed to take their training from the classroom to the marketplace.

Write a note of encouragement to the training center participants. Enter your name and a few words of encouragement for either the students or the teachers, and we will forward them on to our partners to share.
