They are almost everywhere you click, tap, or turn. Backed by before-and-after pictures, they offer hope that your life will be better. Do you want to look thinner? Do you want fewer wrinkles? How about whiter teeth, shinier hair, a fitter, stronger, faster body? All of these share one common component: “Buy our product, and your life will change.” The problem is that they’re often accompanied by a disclaimer: “Results not typical.”
The Tide® recently began an initiative to better the lives of a group of people known as Baka (sometimes referred to as Pygmy). The Baka are nomadic forest-dwelling people in Cameroon and are thought to be one of the oldest people groups in Central Africa. They sustain themselves through hunting and gathering. The forest is both their means of survival and the heart of their spiritual beliefs. They worship a god they call Komba, whom they believe is largely disinterested in them. Because of that, they connect with Komba through a spirit named Jengi who inhabits the forest and punishes wrongdoers. The Baka are disconnected from mainstream society, often located a several-day walk from the nearest village. They are disconnected from the government and have no representation. They are disconnected from the God of the Bible, having never heard the Gospel in their own language. Through a partnership with Cameroon Center for Evangelism and Hope (CFEH), we began an outreach several months ago. Our goal was to show them they are valuable and loved by God and to connect them with His Son Jesus, who died for their sins.
Unlike the many who sell self-help products and promise results with a disclaimer, The Tide ministry doesn’t sell anything, and we have no disclaimer. Instead, thanks to your support, have provided media players loaded with messages of the love of God to satisfy their hearts, and nutrition to satisfy their stomachs. We give them hope and offer care for their whole being.
The typical results in The Tide ministry are exactly what one would expect. Financial support results in the Gospel being preached in the heart language people are born to speak. Preaching the Gospel results in saved souls and changed lives. The “Before” picture of the Baka is one of no hope, no Gospel in their language, and no one showing genuine care and concern for their hearts and souls.
Take a look at the “After” on our social media accounts (Facebook, Instagram, Tiktok). Thanks to you and your support, the difference is genuine and noticeable. Lives are changed.
If you are looking for opportunities to get involved in sharing the message of a hope that does not disappoint, we invite you to visit our “Get Involved” page to learn how you can give, pray, or volunteer to support that ministry of The Tide.
