Listener Conversations from Mozambique

We recently shared our views on the importance of following up with listeners. The human touch is essential to any ministry outreach effort. This week we are excited to bring you a report from Mozambique, where our partners have been documenting their digital (and in-person) follow-up efforts with listeners.

In Mozambique, we have been broadcasting the “Words of God” radio program in Chichewa, a Bantu language, since 2020. Between July and September 2024, the team recorded 398 listeners reaching out to them. Most of these were via telephone call (301), with most of the remainder via text message; ten responses were made in-person. About 70% of the contacts were seekers, 20% new believers, and 10% believers who have known the Lord for some time.

Here are some interactions that have recently occurred.

In August, a listener asked the following question:

We have heard the message of God which is warning us that we should prepare for our destiny (Isaiah 38:1-6). We much appreciating it. It was good lesson indeed. We must be very careful of another life which is coming.

But I need your help. What are the real days of worshiping God?  Because we are much confused with other teachings.

Our team responded as follows:

Don’t get confused with a day of worship because the day will not save anybody but only receiving Jesus as your Lord and Savior. But to answer your question let’s look in Exodus 20:8-10. It says that for 6 days a person must labor but on 7th day of the week he must rest, on the Sabbath of the Lord your God. So, Sabbath is resting. Any day that you rest is Sabbath and it can be the day of worshipping God.

In April, another listener asked the following question:

Thank you very much pastor for the massage which you shared with as from the book of Proverbs 14, verse 1. To tell the truth, I am failing as a reader. As a reader I am failing to study Bible with my wife most of the times and it reaches at the point that when I try to do so we end up starting quarreling from nowhere. I don’t know what should I do? Because it is becoming a challenge to my family and to the mission of God.

Our team responded as follows:

From 1 Timothy 3:1-10, Paul says a reader must face temptations so that he can start reading. And so pray hard without ceasing so that Satan should not have chance on you and also pray for your wife so that God will change her life.

These are rubber meets the road examples of media outreach ministry, guiding listeners from initial engagement to committing as a follower of Christ. A number of these listeners are engaging multiple times, and relationships are being built over time. We pray that all would commit to following the Lord.
