The Tide® Ministry Calls for Prayer for Afghanistan

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa.— As people around the world gather in shock at the latest news coming from Afghanistan, The Tide® (www.thetide.orgministry encourages Christians to turn to the Lord in prayer, particularly for the people of faith trapped in the war-torn country.

Don Shenk, director of The Tide® ministry, stated, “It’s easy to feel overwhelmed by the tragedy going on across the world, but we as Christians know that God has a plan and a purpose for this situation. While the crisis seems extreme, nothing is impossible for God. We need to be on our knees praying for our fellow believers.”

For Shenk, it’s a testament to God’s divine purpose and planning that The Tide® ministry just recently started working in Afghanistan. An organization that utilizes the power of radio to spread the Good News to people all across the world, The Tide® ministry shares the Gospel daily in over 30 different languages on three continents, reaching millions of people including those in Afghanistan, Albania, Bhutan, India, Kosovo, Mozambique, Nepal, Nigeria, Pakistan, Thailand, and Zimbabwe. The ministry has only been in Afghanistan and the surrounding area for just over a year.

In Afghanistan, The Tide® ministry utilizes the Dari language, the local dialect of the area, to teach the people about Christ in their own vernacular. The timing of The Tide® ministry’s entrance into Afghanistan might seem like a fortuitous circumstance, but Shenk knows otherwise. “God knew that this current crisis would happen, and it was part of His divine plan to have The Tide® ministry on the ground, supporting the believers and sharing the Good News through the radio. In an environment of increased danger, where meeting and worshipping together is risky, radio may be the only source of nurture and encouragement for their faith. When everything seems so uncertain, believers in Christ can stand on the hope and promises of God that He has a plan and a purpose for everything.”

The Tide® ministry celebrates its 75th year of ministry in 2021. Looking ahead to the next 75 years, The Tide® ministry and its partners will focus on the core foundations of “The Tide Diamond Vision”:
