The Tide® Ministry Begins Outreach in a New Language in Zimbabwe—Shona

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa.—Besides supporting pastors, creating a community revenue stream and even supplying power to a nearby church, a new studio in Zimbabwe built by The Tide® (www.thetide.org)global Gospel ministry and its supporters has opened yet another door.

“The construction of a new studio last year has furthered the spread of the Gospel in Zimbabwe,” said The Tide Director Don Shenk. “First, during the COVID-19 pandemic, when pastors are unable to record and broadcast sermons for virtual services, studio personnel have stepped in to help. Then, others who would normally have to travel to South Africa for recording services have created business and revenue opportunities for this this community. And third, the power from solar panels installed last year at the studio is shared with a nearby church so it can offer Sunday services in a location where electricity can be sporadic.”

But the most recent and exciting development at the studio has been the recording of the “Amagugu Evangeli” program in the Shona language. The programs in this additional language are then distributed via WhatsApp.

The twice-weekly programs in Shona indicate even more expanded outreach through the new studio, Shenk added.

“We are looking forward to having more of Shona messages,” The Tide partner in Zimbabwe reported. “In our listener feedback, we receive a lot of Shona responses.”

Those listening to the Amagugu Evangeli” program—which means “Precious Gospel” in English—in the Shona language have shared their feedback and questions:

  • “Enjoyed today’s sermon. It was most refreshing and true. I am in Harare. I request audio messages if it’s possible.”
  • “If I want to be born again, what do I need to do? I request an everlasting life from God.”
  • “Hallelujah, pastor. Thank you for the word. May God be with you.”
  • “I am Hlengiwe from Harare. I listen to your program every Sunday. Thank you for helping me.”

For nearly 75 years, The Tide ministry has recorded and broadcasted Gospel programming in nine countries on three continents in 27 heart languages spoken by millions of people in multiple regions of Albania, Bhutan, India, Kosovo, Nepal, Nigeria, Pakistan, Thailand and Zimbabwe. With more than 7,000 languages spoken worldwide and more than 2,000 people groups that have been unreached by the Good News of Jesus, the opportunities are tremendous.
