The Tide® Gospel Radio Ministry Recognizes the National Day of Prayer

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa.—The Tide® global radio ministry is looking forward to the National Day of Prayer on May 6 as an opportunity to lift up local and national ministries. The Tide ministry broadcasts the Gospel message in 30 languages over the airwaves on three continents, but 75 years ago, they began as a local Christian broadcast in Pennsylvania.

“When Rev. Charlie Byers started producing The Gospel Tide Hour in 1946, he had no way of knowing how far the ministry would stretch,” said The Tide Director Don Shenk. “We’ve been blessed for the past 75 years because of the prayer and support of our partners in America, and we are pleased to be able to honor that by offering the same prayer and support to other ministries around us.”

Though The Tide ministry no longer broadcasts in the United States, they understand that this nation is in need of the Word of God as much as any nation. “America has become a secular country, and the souls here are just as much in need of Christ as the souls in Nigeria, India or Pakistan,” Shenk said. “As The Tide reaches out internationally, we are proud to partner with ministries working on the national front.”

The National Day of Prayer theme this year is 2 Corinthians 3:17: “Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty.” Because the Spirit provides such a freedom to know the Lord, The Tide ministry’s prayer is that many in America and across the world will feel the Spirit and turn to Him with softened hearts, ready to receive and meditate on the Gospel.

The Tide ministry is celebrating their 75th anniversary of recording and broadcasting Gospel programming. Millions of people in multiple regions on three continents can hear Gospel content recorded in 30 heart languages, including those in Afghanistan, Albania, Bhutan, India, Kosovo, Mozambique, Nepal, Nigeria, Pakistan, Thailand and Zimbabwe. With more than 7,000 languages spoken worldwide and more than 2,000 people groups yet unreached with the Good News of Jesus, the opportunities are tremendous.
