The Tide® Global Radio Ministry Reaches Thai Listeners Throughout the Pandemic

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa.—As COVID-19 continues to cause uncertainty across the world, The Tide®(www.thetide.org) radio ministry is recording and broadcasting the Good News in hard-to-reach places.

Suffering not just because of the health crisis but also because of the economic ramifications of travel restrictions and smaller demand on exports, the people of Thailand are searching for hope and truth. The Tide ministry is reaching those truth-seekers through 50-minute gospel programs broadcast in the Isaan language, which is spoken by 19 million people in Thailand. These installments help listeners get a true overview of God’s Word, taking those interested in learning more about Christianity from Creation to the Church and giving a panoramic view of the Bible.

“It is undoubtedly a very frightening and apprehensive time in Thailand, but we know our ministry partners are reaching out to the people of Thailand with the hope of Jesus, a caring word, encouraging prayers and the peace only Christ can bring,” said The Tide Director, Don Shenk.

To fight feelings of isolation and to spread the message of joy, The Tide ministry recently hosted two live radio broadcasts in Thailand. During these broadcasts, The Tide ministry invited listeners to call in to ask questions about the Gospel or share their testimonies on air.

The ministry partners have been thankful for the 8 to 9 a.m. broadcast slot, which is convenient for rural farmers. Online programs and daily devotionals are also part of the ministry mix. Partners share a seven to 10 minute online devotional called “Walking With God” with followers through the social media app called “Line,” which is Japan’s largest social network that has spread into neighboring countries.

The Tide ministry is celebrating their 75th anniversary of recording and broadcasting gospel programming which now extends into multiple regions on three continents with content in 30 heart languages spoken by millions of people in various countries, including Afghanistan, Albania, Bhutan, India, Kosovo, Mozambique, Nepal, Nigeria, Pakistan, Thailand, and Zimbabwe. With more than 7,000 languages spoken worldwide and more than 2,000 people groups yet unreached with the Good News of Jesus, the opportunities are tremendous.
