Sunday’s International Day for the Unreached Shines Light on 2 Billion Yet to Hear the Gospel

This Sunday, the International Day for the Unreached will unite believers around the world to bring attention to the more than 2 billion people yet to be reached with the Gospel.

For nearly 75 years, the mission of The Tide® has been to reach those who have never heard about Jesus—in the languages they were born to speak.

“The Tide ministry remains committed to worldwide evangelism and discipleship,” said Director Don Shenk. “Our goal is to lead as many people as possible into a life transforming relationship with Jesus Christ. We do this primarily through Christian radio broadcasts in multiple languages around the world, but also engage in discipleship, leadership development, church planting, short-term mission trips and more.”

The Tide accomplishes this through producing audio programs to tell people about Jesus in their native language. Through “heart language” audio messages produced on-site in the countries where The Tide ministry is active, and using indigenous speakers, people are introduced to a personal and loving God who relates to them in the context of their own environment and culture.

“Like those concerned for the 2 billion worldwide who are unreached,” Shenk added, “the majority of our efforts are directed toward people groups who currently have very limited access to the Gospel. Once God opens doors for The Tide ministry into a country, we help people learn how to live in relationship with Jesus through teaching conferences, providing Christian literature and Bibles, and where possible enrolling new believers in Bible correspondence courses in their own language.

“Currently, The Tide offers Gospel programming in 25 heart languages in regions of Albania, Bhutan, India, Kosovo, Nepal, Nigeria, Thailand and Zimbabwe,” he continued. “Therefore, another important component of The Tide ministry’s work is to provide radios and media players for people to be able to hear the Gospel, with the goal to ensure that everyone has a chance to hear the message of the saving grace of Jesus Christ.”

The purpose for the International Day for the Unreached on May 20 is to educate, inspire and motivate believers in North America to take a stand on behalf of those who have yet to hear the Good News. A special broadcast is planned for 8 p.m. ET Sunday; learn more here.
