Chambersburg, Pa. — The meaning of an expression that may baffle people unfamiliar with the New Testament — “for those who have ears to hear, let them hear” — is ringing loud and clear in Nigeria, as listeners of The Tide® (www.thetide.org) ministry’s radio broadcasts experience physical and spiritual healing.
Nigerian listeners are reaching out to The Tide radio ministry workers with gratitude for helping them experience the love of God by hearing His Word through the ministry’s broadcasts and by seeing God work miracles in their lives.
One such listener had been partially deaf for two years before experiencing healing.
“During the miracle crusade, God restored my hearing ability,” the listener said. “I thank the Lord Jesus Christ.”
The Tide ministry’s boots on the ground in Nigeria organize and conduct evangelistic crusades in various regions throughout the year. These public meetings provide the opportunity for listeners to meet the radio pastors and receive additional spiritual edification. People who respond in faith often experience an extraordinary healing touch from God and reference the event as a “miracle crusade.”
God is bringing about more than just physical healing. He also works through The Tide radio programs to heal relationships and bring people closer to Himself. One listener of the “Okuchineke” (“Word of God”) program had a troublesome marriage with her husband of five years. She reached out to the radio station, and after talking with The Tide staff, the listener experienced healing in her marriage.
“I thank the almighty God for restoring peace in my household through [a] call to meet your radio pastor,” she said.
God has made himself evident to The Tide listeners through these and many other miracles. But through His Word shared via The Tide radio programs, God has brought even more spiritual healing to the hearts of many Nigerians over the past decade.
The Tide ministry produced its first Nigerian language radio program back in 2009. Since then, The Tide has expanded to 11 languages, each in a different region. Because of the ministry’s expansion, 11 people groups throughout Nigeria now have access to the gospel. But with a total of 470 different languages spoken in Nigeria and the country being the most populous in Africa, there are still many more people who are missing God’s Word and His healing work in their lives.
Hoping to add more radio programs in additional languages, The Tide ministry works diligently to fulfill the Great Commission and watch as God heals people through His Word.
“On the one hand it may sound impressive to say that The Tide radio programs are potentially heard by almost half of the population of Nigeria, but the reality is that still leaves over 100 million people without access to gospel radio programs in the language they were born to speak,” The Tide ministry Director Don Shenk said. “Because most of them are deeply entrenched in other religions, we still have much Kingdom work to do in Nigeria.”
Nigerian Christians desperately need prayer and support from the global church. More than 6,000 Christians have been targeted and killed in Nigeria since 2015, with little protection from military and police or from international leaders, in violent campaigns many members of British Parliament say could meet the definition of genocide.
For nearly 75 years, The Tide ministry has recorded and broadcast Gospel programming in nine countries on three continents in 27 heart languages spoken by millions of people in multiple regions, including Albania, Bhutan, India, Kosovo, Nepal, Nigeria, Pakistan, Thailand and Zimbabwe. With more than 7,000 languages spoken worldwide and more than 2,000 people groups yet unreached with the Good News of Jesus, the opportunities are tremendous.
