Believers Can Send Letters of Encouragement to Widows in Nigeria This Christmas

Several well-known ministries are teaming up to give Christians an opportunity to bless widows in Nigeria this Christmas season. We are excited to be joining these groups! Currently, the country is experiencing terrible unrest and Nigerians desperately need prayer and hope.

Uncharted Ministries, Voice of the Martyrs and American Family Association (AFA) are leading the Orange Letter Campaign, where believers can send letters to persecuted Nigerian widows who are suffering greatly. Many have lost their husbands due to the heartbreaking onslaught of persecution resulting from land ownership conflicts between nomadic herdsmen and established subsistence farmers, which has left villages devastated and families fractured.

“While many of us may never know the hardships these people are facing, we can at least give a moment of peace and encouragement by lifting up a sister in Christ,” said The Tide Director Don Shenk. “May they know they are not forgotten nor alone in their time of suffering and sorrow. 1 Corinthians 12:26 reminds us that ‘if one part suffers, every part suffers with it.’”

In 2009, The Tide ministry began broadcasting Gospel radio programming in Nigeria in the Efik language, and since then, has added programming in 10 more languages. These programs have the potential to be heard by millions of people who do not yet know Jesus as their Lord and Savior.

Notes of encouragement for the Orange Letter Campaign will be translated into the readers’ languages, much like the radio broadcasts from The Tide partners, which are broadcast in the heart languages people were born to speak.

AFA and Uncharted Ministries are suggesting letters filled with Scripture, prayer and encouragement so that the Nigerian widows may hear the Word of God to speak to their hearts. Over the past three years, AFA has joined with Uncharted Ministries to also deliver letters to Christians in Egypt, Syria and North Korea. Those wishing to send letters may do so by emailing orange@afa.netor visiting unchartedministries.com/orangeletter.

The Tide ministry’s weekly radio feature, “Global Update,” airs on nearly 200 stations on American Family Radio.

Another important aspect of The Tide ministry in Nigeria is the “Radios for Nigeria” project. As people give toward this project, The Tide ministry places radios in villages throughout Nigeria, where a third of the population lives below the poverty line. Through these radios many people are now hearing the Gospel message in their own language and responding positively to God’s offer of salvation.
